The NSW Seniors Information Service provides older people and their families and carers with information on the range of services and options available to them. We aim to help older people to make the most of their independence and personal wellbeing, and make informed decisions.
The service is funded and managed by the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care, through its Office for Ageing.
Seniors Information Service provides information over the phone, by post, email and via our website. We have a series of fact sheets, and some information resources from other NSW Government agencies, which we pass on to callers.
We recognise that family members and carers may also want to find information on behalf of older people they are close to, so we welcome their questions.
Seniors Information Service does not employ qualified financial, legal or health professionals, so is not in a position to advise callers what actions to take in their particular circumstances or to guide them in making decisions. However, we know of a range of services that can provide advice, and will give callers the names and contact details of relevant services, usually within their local area.
Our logo, which is formed from interlinked loops (or infinity signs), symbolises connection – the connections that older people have with their families, friends and local community, and the connections that the Seniors Information Service has with other organisations across NSW.
One of our goals is to encourage older people to form strong community links, and to foster communities in which older people actively participate.
Like the rest of the community, older people use a wide range of services in different parts of their lives – including (but not limited to) recreational, financial, lifelong learning and health services. These services are offered by a cross-section of community groups and government organisations (local, state and national).
The Seniors Information Service connects older NSW residents into these advisory and service organisations, which gives them the basis on which to make informed decisions.
